MorphoVess investigates vasculogenesis, a fundamental developmental process, during which mesodermal progenitors are differentiated to endothelial cells (ECs) in response to VEGF-A. Using a combination of cutting-edge technologies, and in collaboration with leaders in the field, we will define the signalling pathways controlling vasculogenesis in human cells. Leading on from the key VEGF-A cascades controlling vasculogenesis we will also address 2 key issues related to the role of flow and perivascular cells in the vasculogenic process itself and the maturation of the ECs.
